How do I obtain Residential
Sanitation Service?
1. Residential Sanitation service will be established when you complete the application for other City Utility Services. You can download the application online here, pick one up at 77 North Main Street or call (270) 824-2102 to have one emailed to you.
2. Turn in your application at 77 North Main Street or email it to lstash@madisonvillegov.com.
3. Pay your deposit in person or by phone (if required). MMU may require a copy of a tenant's lease agreement. Customers may be required to pay a deposit. MMU will use an "on line" credit information service to determine the deposit amount. All residential accounts will be charged a $25 service fee. Per Kentucky Revised Statute customer deposits are returned with interest to the customer after an established period of 18 months with no delinquent notices to the account. No transfer of security deposit to another account is permitted.

How do I qualify for Handicap Sanitation Service?

The City of Madisonville Sanitation Department is happy to provide handicap assistance services for residents who are unable to move their toter to and from the curb for collection.

To qualify for this service, we require a letter from your attending physician verifying the need for assistance. This letter may be mailed to us at 900 McCoy Avenue, Madisonville, KY, or emailed to llewis@madisonvillegov.com for review.

Once the documentation is received and approved, your account will be updated to include this service.
Information for Customers

Trash toter should be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection and removed from the curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the day following collection.

The trash or recycle toter lid should be closed and handle facing away from the street. (If one toter does not contain the garbage produced weekly by the household or business, an additional toter should be requested.)

Organic garbage and food waste should first be sealed in an appropriate plastic trash bag, before being placed in the toter. The city shall not be required to collect any solid waste not deposited in an appropriate container.

Cardboard boxes should be broken down before being placed in toter or dumpster.

The Sanitation Department is not responsible for dislodging articles jammed into a toter or dumpster.

Tree limbs and yard waste should not be placed in trash toter.

Customers hiring tree trimmers should note that it is not the City's responsibility to remove any debris that the trimmers have created.

The Sanitation Department will not pickup or dispose of refrigerators, air conditioners or other appliances containing freon unless the customer presents documentary evidence satisfactory that all freon has been removed by a certified technician.

The following items can be collected and/or disposed of by the Sanitation Department at a charge of fifty dollars ($50.00) per pickup truck load.
a) Construction Debris up to two (2) cubic yards;
b) Carpet in excess of one roll;
c) Limbs and trees larger than four (4) inches in diameter or in excess of two (2) cubic yards
d) Refrigerators, air conditioners and other appliances NOT containing freon.

What day is my trash pickup? The city is divided into routes. Each route has a specific pickup date. If you are unsure of your day, please call 270-824-2117 and one of our helpful team members will be happy to assist. Your trash will be collected each week.

What day is my recycle pickup? Residential recycle customers are serviced every other week. If you are unsure of your day, please call 270-824-2117 and one of our helpful team members will be happy to assist.

If there is a holiday, when will my trash and recycle be picked up? Our holiday schedule is shared via all City of Madisonville social media platforms. Additionally, the Sanitation Department has a Facebook page. You can find us by searching City of Madisonville Sanitation Department. You are always welcome to call our direct line at 270-824-2117 and our staff will be glad to share the schedule with you. If it is after hours, our voicemail will provide the holiday schedule.

What are your hours of operation? Our normal hours of operation are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

If there is inclement weather, will my trash and recycle still run on schedule? If we have a significant weather event, it may prevent our trucks from safely navigating city streets. Should this happen, our revised schedule will be shared via all City of Madisonville social media platforms. Additionally, the Sanitation Department has a Facebook page. Single-Stream Curbside Recycling - Toter fee $5.00
iRecycle is Madisonville's hassle-free, single-stream recycling program, provided to our Sanitation customers. All collected materials undergo sorting at the City of Madisonville Recycling Center, before being shipped to processing mills.
Enrolling is simple! If you are currently a City of Madisonville sanitation customer, you are eligible to participate.
