In the event that a residential unit remains vacant and unoccupied for more than 60 consecutive days, the monthly solid waste collection fee can be temporarily suspended. However, this can only occur if the owner or the person having control of the residential unit notifies the City in writing. It is important for the owner or responsible party to promptly inform the City in writing when the unit becomes occupied again. In such cases, the collection fee for the unit will be reinstated, effective from the first day of occupancy.

Additionally, property owners are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and good condition of the area surrounding the dumpster enclosure. It is crucial to keep service gates in proper working order and ensure the installation and functionality of gate stops to prevent any issues. It is essential to keep the path to the dumpster clear at all times. While we strive to collect your trash efficiently, we cannot be held responsible if the approach to the dumpster is blocked. In such cases, we would need to return to service the site repeatedly. We will make reasonable efforts to empty the dumpster completely, but we cannot be held liable for lightweight items that may fall out on their own or for objects that span the interior width of the dumpster and become jammed.

We make every effort to ensure all limb and brush collection are on the same day as the customer's regularly scheduled trash collection. If a customer's limbs or brush exceeds the size of a half-ton pickup, (8' long x 5' wide x 2' deep) there is a charge of $50 per load. Customers hiring tree trimmers should note that it is not the City's responsibility to remove any debris that the trimmers have created.

Large or bulky items are collected the same day as the customer's garbage collection day. Items such as refrigerators or air conditioners, which contain Freon, must be tagged by a certified company that all Freon has been removed. In addition, there will be a $50.00 charge for pick-up of items that have contained Freon. In regards to other large or bulky items, if the load exceeds that of a half-ton pickup, (8' long x 5' wide x 2' deep) there will be a charge of $50 per load. Customers may also drop off bulky items during normal business hours at 900 McCoy Ave. There will be a minimum charge of $33.13 if the load weighs less than a ton or $126.75 per ton.

Leaf Collection The City of Madisonville Sanitation Department plans to begin its annual loose leaf pickup in November 2026. Please have your leaves curbside. During this time, bulk item and limb pickup will be quite limited. We will continue loose leaf collection into December 2026, weather permitting. Once loose leaf collection stops, we will return to bulk item and limb collection.
